As a 200 year old cottage, it was important that the new work carried out was done in sympathy with exisiting structure. Attention to correct materials and age appropriate finish were key, so that the marriage between old and new was impercetable.
Work inculded the removal of existing rear single storey extension, to make room for a double storey extension, providing large dining room with master bedroom, and en-suite above. Stone steps lead down from the dining room, opening out to a single storey new kitchen extension, with vaulted ceiling and velux roof lights, to increase natural light, and enhance the open spacious feel. Existing concrete garage was removed and new double storey garage with office space above was built.
Reclaimed slates and bricks to match the cottage and neighbouring building were sourced. The existing Swithland slate was difficult to source and the fitting was specialist, but this with resolved succesfully. From the outset, the aim of the project was to make it look like it had always been there, which with attention to this type of detail we achieved succesfully.
